(November 4, 2015) – W. L. Gore & Associates announces the launch of its next-generation PolyVent High Airflow, which advances the performance capabilities of GORE Protective Vents Screw-In Series. Engineered to handle the large pressure differentials caused by extreme weather conditions, the new GORE® PolyVent High Airflow provides twice the airflow, with the same reliable ingress protection as Gore’s prior generation of “HA” (High Airflow) vents. It also features an improved O-ring that is UL-rated for flammability resistance.

Engineered to handle the large pressure differentials caused by extreme weather conditions, the new GORE PolyVent High Airflow provides twice the airflow, with the same reliable ingress protection as Gore’s prior generation of “HA” (High Airflow) vents. It also features an improved O-ring that is UL-rated for flammability resistance. For enclosures up to 50 liters, the GORE® PolyVent High Airflow provides an advanced level of protection against the extreme conditions that can damage seals and outdoor electronics.

“The new GORE PolyVent High Airflow delivers throughput of 4000 ml/minute at 70 mbar pressure differential – basically double the airflow of our prior HA vent, which provided 2000 ml/minute,” says Protective Vents’ Global Product Manager Torsten Eifler. “It achieves that level of airflow while maintaining the same reliable ingress protection. The new GORE PolyVent High Airflow meets IP66, IP67, IP68 (1 hour immersion at 2 m) and IP69k (high-pressure steam) protection standards. The new vent also includes a specially-treated membrane that provides oleophobic as well as hydrophobic resistance.”

Eifler expects this new-generation High Airflow vent will be of particular value to two different groups of outdoor electronics manufacturers: those who require higher airflow because they are designing larger enclosures of up to 50 liters free air volume, and those who require greater airflow to enable more cost-efficient design adaptations such as thinner housing walls, or less rugged seals.

The new GORE PolyVent High Airflow also incorporates another technology upgrade: an enhanced O-ring formulation that is rated UL 94 V-0 for flammability resistance.

UL-rated flammability-resistance for safer outdoor electronics

“An O-ring’s flammability-resistance may seem a small thing, but at Gore it is an important safety issue,” said Eifler. “Our vent caps and vent bodies already have earned UL 94 V-0 ratings. Bringing the O-ring up to that same performance level reflects Gore’s commitment to technical leadership and ongoing product innovation. We strive to keep fine-tuning all components of our venting solutions, so they work optimally together and perform to the highest industry standards.”

The new GORE PolyVent High Airflow is designed for screw-in installation, and is available in two colors: Black (product number PMF100585) and Grey (product number PMF100586). These new vents incorporate distinct performance upgrades, yet they are engineered to the same sizes and manufactured to the same quality specifications as the prior-generation PolyVent HA products they will replace.
