Smaller Cables Save Weight & Are Durable in Extreme Conditions

GORE® FireWire® Cables transmit uninterrupted S400 data rate signals with flexure at lengths up to 30 m (100 ft.) in all aircraft conditions. Our quadrax design is smaller and lighter than dual twisted pair constructions, saving weight while providing a protective barrier against tough flight and maintenance conditions.

Durable, Flexible Cable Technology

We manufacture GORE FireWire Cables with exceptional features that make them stronger against challenging environmental factors and aircraft conditions, including:

  • temperature- and abrasion-resistant materials
  • chemically inert materials
  • smaller, lighter diameters

For system architects and engineers, this Gore-invented quadrax design offers several benefits that ensure lifelong performance in aircraft, like:

  • high fidelity signals up to 30 meters (100 feet) at S400 data rates
  • proven reliable signal integrity and greater transmission length with flexure
  • excellent shielding effectiveness due to a double-braided shield, each with 92% coverage
  • around 40% smaller than dual twisted pair constructions
  • lightweight design proven to save as much as 5.2 kg (11.5 lbs.) per aircraft
  • protective barrier against complex routing and harsh aviation conditions
  • easy routing in tight systems from proven flexure and small bend radius
  • compatible with a variety of high-speed connector systems and backshells

The reliable signal integrity with flexure at higher data rates makes GORE FireWire Cables the premier copper-based SAE 1394 solution for a variety of aviation applications, like:

  • avionics digital networks
  • flight control
  • HD camera/video systems
  • mission systems

Our cables can also be terminated with a variety of leading high-speed aerospace connector systems and backshells, like ARINC and MIL-STD-38999 with size 8 and 22D contacts.

Smaller-Scale Design for More Weight Savings

This quadrax cable geometry invented by Gore features a reduced size that’s around 40% smaller than comparable dual twisted pair cables. Our smaller diameters are also up to 30% lighter weight and proven to save as much as 5.2 kg (11.5 lbs.) per aircraft.
