Industries & Use Cases for PEM Technology

Hydrogen Demand

Our expertise in advanced material technology means we can tailor the structure of our membranes to address key requirements of fuel cell developers.

  • High Proton Conductance & Power Density
  • Improved Mechanical and Chemical Durability
  • Low Gas Permeance

These properties make Gore fuel cell components fit for purpose in the most demanding fuel cell applications worldwide:

  • Transportation — reliable, zero-emission power for cars, buses and heavy duty vehicles
  • Stationary — back-up power for critical systems and remote locations
  • Portable — fuel cell generators and compact charge devices
  • Co-generation — cost-efficient heat and power for home

Hydrogen Production

The global clean energy transition needs scalable water electrolysis to meet commercial demand, but it requires significant energy, making it costly. Lowering the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) involves designing reliable, scalable electrolyzers to reduce production costs. PEM electrolysis cells are effective for variable power levels, suitable for renewable sources, have low gas cross-over at low current densities for safe hydrogen production, and are compact for flexible system design and higher hydrogen purity.
