Purpose and community in Cecil County
For Darryl Wilson, Gore is about family, purpose and community.
Growing up in Cecil County, Darryl Wilson always knew about Gore. His father has spent more than 30 years with the company, and many of the people around him either worked at Gore or had family members who did. Today, Darryl is building his own career at one of Gore’s Elkton, Maryland, facilities, continuing a family connection that stretches across generations.
Darryl is part of a team manufacturing medical devices that provide relief from pain and symptoms associated with a terminal diagnosis. While the work is technical, what stays with him is the impact the products can have on patients and families.

“For me, that’s very impactful because I know these patients are near end of life and they’re just looking for comfort and stability within that moment of hardship,” Darryl said. “Knowing that I’m making something that’s impactful to them makes working eight or 10 hours nothing but simple and blissful for me.”
For Darryl, Gore’s presence in Maryland has always felt personal. He saw firsthand the positive impact the company had on local families, including his own, and how careers at Gore created opportunities close to home.
That sense of community is one of the reasons Darryl believes Gore stands apart. He describes it as a place where people from different backgrounds work toward the same goal and where associates feel welcomed from day one.
“Once you step in the door, there’s no judgment,” he said. “You’ve got one mission with a group of people, and everybody’s coming together to get the work done.”
For Darryl, it is rewarding to know work happening in Elkton can help patients and families he will never meet.
