Gore Features Innovative Solutions for Aerospace Industry at Farnborough International Airshow
Elkton, MD (June 25, 2012) – To improve reliability and performance of aircraft, W. L. Gore & Associates has advanced its portfolio of aerospace products to increase flight time, enhance signal integrity, and reduce damage from corrosion, abrasion, and contaminants. At the 2012 Farnborough International Airshow in London, Gore is featuring new products ranging from materials to reduce vibration damage to cables that improve access to in-flight entertainment. Gore will also be displaying its full line of GORE™ SKYFLEX™ Aerospace Materials, cables and interconnects, sealants, and shielding materials specifically engineered to meet the demanding challenges of the aerospace industry.
In response to rapid changes in aircraft technology, Gore has developed cable-based antennas (often referred to as leaky lines) that improve signal propagation without increasing the amount of hardware required on the plane. Ideal for wide-body aircraft, this new technology provides reliable access to different wireless protocols so passengers can easily connect to in-flight entertainment, Internet servers, and email accounts.
The latest additions to the line of GORE™ SKYFLEX™ Aerospace Materials provide protection against mechanical forces and vibration that can result in abrasion, corrosion, punctures, and tears in both rotary and fixed wing aircraft surfaces. More durable than fiberglass tapes, the abrasion-resistant materials engineered specifically for edge protection isolate carbon fibers and prevent galvanic corrosion caused by exposure to dissimilar metals. The soft conformable nature of the materials for anti-chafe applications helps minimize vibration force and reduce the effects of foreign debris between surfaces on access panels, fuel bladders, tail booms, and transmission panels.
"We are excited to showcase the breadth and depth of our line of proven solutions for the aerospace industry," says Brian Tallman, Gore’s global business leader for aerospace. "We understand the critical issues of durability, reliability, and performance. In this arena, failure is simply not an option. Whether developing a cable for data transmission in the Mars Lander or ensuring or ensuring passenger satisfaction with increased aircraft availability, performance cannot be compromised. Over our 40-year history in spaceflight applications, Gore cables have achieved 100 percent success in space flight applications, with programs that include the International Space Station and over 70 satellite programs."
