Cable Performance & Specifications

Manufactured to be a direct replacement for standard RG400 cables, GORE Coaxial Cables (50 Ohms) for Aircraft are built with a white extruded Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) outer jacket that is UV laser printable. Other layers include a braided shield, helically wrapped silver-plated copper outer conductor and dielectric made with FEP over expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). A silver-plated copper center conductor completes the design. Our aviation coax cable outperforms standard RG cables with features and benefits like the following:

SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT SAVINGS

Gore’s downsized coaxial cable design is 30% smaller and 60% lighter than RG400 cables. We’ve proven that you can save 22 kg (48 lb) by replacing RG400 cables with our lighter cable design in a typical IFE system on an Airbus 330/340 airliner. And if you replace all of the RG400 cables with our coaxial cables in a typical large cabin business jet, you can expect to save about 19 kg (42 lb).

OPTIMIZED PERFORMANCE WITH LOW LOSS

GORE Coaxial Cables (50 Ohms) for Aircraft are proven to optimize signal transmission up to 3 GHz with 10% lower insertion loss over standard RG400 cables. These cables are known to maintain controlled impedance at 50 ohms.

EASIER INSTALLATION

A smaller, more flexible design allows aircraft maintainers to tightly bend and twist our coaxial cables without breaking them during initial installation or routine maintenance. In particular, when retrofitting our cables in constricted areas around critical system components.

Exceeding Rigorous Standards across Aircraft Applications

We rigorously test the reliability of GORE Coaxial Cables (50 Ohms) for Aircraft to ensure they meet the following industry standards, including:

  • EN4604-003: Cable Characteristics for Signal Transmission
  • FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part I: Flammability
  • MIL-C-17/128: Electrical Performance Requirements for Radio Frequency, Flexible RG400 Coaxial Cable, 50 Ohms

Our coaxial cable’s compliance and optimized performance make it the ideal solution for replacing RG400 cables in box-to-box antennas, communications systems, in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems and navigation systems.
