Case Study: Stack Gas Cleaning Downstream From a Coal-Burning Boiler using GORE® Filter Bags

Case Studies, United States
No manual cleaning has been necessary to maintain a controlled and low pressure drop and maximum gas flow. Despite hours of poor combustion, the GORE Membrane Filter Bags have reconditioned themselves, and the pressure drop and flow values have returned to normal.
Application
Stack gas cleaning downstream from a coal-burning boiler for heating of greenhouse. Pulse-cleaned filter cassette from Flakt (72 oval bags as a compact cassette, 6 cassettes).
Optimization Potential
Manual cleaning required once yearly because of clogging spark damage to conventional filter bags. This led to replacement of otherwise functional filter cassettes.
Solution
Install six GORE membrane/Teflon® B fiberglass fabric (16.8 oz) filters which will prevent clogging and consequent manual cleaning. At the same time, spark damage is eliminated because the amount of fly ash on the surface is minimal and cannot sustain damage from sparks.
Results
No manual cleaning has been necessary to maintain a controlled and low pressure drop and maximum gas flow. Despite hours of poor combustion, the GORE membrane filter bags have reconditioned themselves, and the pressure drop and flow values have returned to normal.
