Airflow Airflow describes the required time and volume of air your enclosure needs to exchange with the outside. This should be based on enclosure size, anticipated temperature ranges, altitude changes, cooling requirements, and allowable pressure differentials. Gore has developed computer modeling programs to help you determine the amount required.

ePTFE expanded Polytetrafluorethylene. Expanded polytetrafluorethylene, or ePTFE, was invented by W. L. Gore & Associates more than 30 years ago. Gore discovered that PFTE, a polymerized tetrafluoroethylene known for its chemical inertness, high thermal stability, low coefficient of friction and other distinctive properties, could be stretched rapidly to create strong micrporous material known as expanded PTFE, or ePTFE. Gore’s unique structure is ideally suited for venting applications because of its ability to repel liquids and other contaminates while allowing electronic and other enclosures to breathe through its microporous structure. In addition to Membrane Vents, Gore has incorporated its patented ePTFE technology into thousands of diverse products.

Pressure Equalization GORE Protective Vents constantly equalize the difference in pressure between the inside of the enclosure and its immediate environment thus reducing the pressure on the seals at the same time. Maintaining equal pressures between the inside and outside of your enclosure may help extend product life.
