ePTFE

Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly called ePTFE, is the chemical name for a unique plastic with extraordinary material properties. The material is chemically inert, hydrophobic, non-aging, UV- and weather-resistant, and has a wide range of chemical resistance,

HEPA Filter

High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) is a type of air filtration. HEPA classification is defined by the European Standard EN1822 Rating, which is based on the minimum capture rate of the Most Penetrating Particle Size (MPPS), typically about 0.1 microns

EN1822 Rating        Efficiency at MPPS
E10 >85%
E11 >95%
E12  >99.5%

Pressure Drop

Pressure drop (dP) is the measure of resistance to airflow through a filter. Pressure drop contributes to parasitic losses in gas turbine or compressor output. Generally, selecting lowest dP for a given efficiency results in lower operating costs and/or higher dust-holding capacity over a long period of use.

High pressure drop can result in problematic, expensive consequences for the gas turbine operation, including:

  • increased heat rate
  • power output losses
  • short filter life and corresponding downtime for unplanned change out
  • increased operating costs throughout run time

GORE Turbine Filters provide E12 class efficiency and hydrophobicity at the same or lower pressure drop versus standard F8/9 filters over the life of the filter. Our filters have proven lifetimes of two to four years in very challenging coastal and industrial environments across a full range of turbine engine brands and models.

Hydrophobicity

Hydrophobicity is the property of being water repellent, or tending to repel and not absorb water. A hydrophobic filter will block dissolved contaminants when wet (i.e., salt and dirt) through the life of the filter.

GORE Turbine Filters incorporate a hydrophobic ePTFE membrane. This stops the contaminated water at the filter and protects valuable downstream assets.
