Overview

Today’s consumers want their household chemicals and cleaners to be powerful, efficient and built for specific tasks. What they don’t want is the unreliability and hassle of a leaky container.

This presents a challenge for manufacturers: The more aggressive chemical formulations become, the more they need to breathe. Without the appropriate vents, containers of chemicals and cleaners — like bleach, detergent and stain removers — could collapse, bulge or leak when exposed to changes in altitude or temperature. Consumers could purchase leaky products, creating dissatisfaction and problems for brand image. Additionally, labels could be ruined. Pallets could collapse. Expenses for manufacturers could pile up.

GORE Packaging Vents minimize these risks. By providing superior airflow while preventing liquid from escaping containers, our packaging vents allow formulations to breathe without the risk of leaks.

Why Vent?

Because venting is the safe, reliable way to relieve pressure differentials that would otherwise cause containers of liquids to deform, leak or burst.

  • For liquid manufacturers, such defects can reduce productivity and efficiency in palletizing/warehousing. Such defects also hurt profits and brand image, when defective goods are returned...or cannot be sold at all.
  • For cap and container manufacturers, diagnosing and resolving packaging problems can be time-consuming and costly – and can compromise customer satisfaction as well.
  • And all along the supply chain, leaks can create huge risks for end-users and hazards to the environment, as well as costly clean-ups.

GORE® Packaging Vents minimize all these risks. They reliably and continuously equalize pressures, to minimize the potential for leaks and maintain the integrity of containers and their contents.

Active Ingredients that Release or Consume Gases

Unvented container bloating due to off-gassing and collapsing due to oxygen scavenging.

Without venting, pressure build-ups can cause a container to bloat, leak or burst, while under-pressures can cause container collapse.

Many chemical formulations include active ingredients that either off-gas (release gases within the container) or scavenge (consume) free oxygen within the container.

  • Off-gassing builds up pressure within the container.
  • Oxygen scavenging creates an under-pressure within the container.

Temperature Differences

Temperature differences

Temperature changes, or exposure to different climates, can also deform containers. Rising temperatures expand the gas in the headspace of the container and accelerate the decomposition of reactive chemicals, which can cause over-pressures and bloating. Falling temperatures can cause under-pressures and collapse. Sudden or extreme temperature changes accelerate these deformations.

Changes in the External Environment

Sudden or extreme changes in the external environment will accelerate the deformation.

During shipment or warehousing, changes in the external environment (such as increasing or decreasing temperatures or altitudes) also create pressure imbalances that can deform unvented or poorly-ventilated agricultural containers.

Containers Designed to Dispense Liquids

Without venting that continuously re-balances the internal and external pressures, the dispensing container may collapse.

In these packages, the dispensing action automatically creates an under-pressure condition within the container, which will happen repeatedly with use.

GORE PACKAGING VENTS MINIMIZE RISKS FOR AGRICULTURAL CONTAINER SUPPLIERS AND END-USERS

Our portfolio of vents for agricultural products packaging meet stringent ADR and DOT standards, and are designed to reliably protect the integrity of containers that  bear the most challenging contents:

  • biostimulant formulations
  • liquid fertilizer packaging
  • highly-concentrated chemical formulations
GORE Packaging Vents protect containers of agricultural chemicals from deformation, leaks and label damage

GORE Packaging Vents protect agricultural packaging from deformation, leaks and label damage.

Household Chemicals

While other packaging vents may specialize in one of these features, our vents offer a high-performance, tailored, proven solution — and peace of mind.

Liners

Liners are the easy way to transform an existing non-vented package into a well-vented package – without modifying your existing cap or closure. All liners are available in single- and multi-up roll goods, as well as in various widths. Cut parts can also be offered. Gore offers two styles of Liners: Foam Liners and Pulp Induction Liners.

New Foam Liner NEW Foam Liners:
Two Series, with full-surface membranes, for all flat-cap designs. Easy drop-in replacements for all single-point or unvented liners, in applications from consumer chemicals to DOT and ADR-regulated packaging.
Pulp Induction Liner Pulp Induction Liners:
Two Series, for agrochemical bottles (up to 5 l). Weldable installation ensures tamper-evidence; membrane construction provides needed breathability for gas-scavenging chemicals and off-gassing liquids.
