To aid installation, GORE™ Series 300 Gasket Tape comes with a self-adhesive strip. The flange faces must be carefully cleaned to ensure that the uncompressed tape does not come into contact with contaminants such as oil or grease. As the drawing shows, one end should start with a skived cut. The gasket tape should be laid in the middle of the sealing width and should start in front of a bolt hole. When the tape has been placed around the entire circumference, lay the end over the skived end and cut off any excess material leaving a total thickness of approximately 120% of the original gasket height.

Size selection
The gasket width selected should cover between 30% and 50% of the flange face. With tongue and groove flanges, the entire width of the groove should be covered by the gasket. For steel applications, 3mm GORE™ Series 300 Gasket Tape is usually recommended. For irregularities more than 1mm, 6mm thick tape should be used. 2mm thick tape is only used when the flanges are in perfect condition or the equipment is new.
