All types of electrical enclosures used outdoors are subjected to temperature fluctuations and to wind, precipitation, and solar radiation. A sudden drop in temperature due to a rainstorm can cause a 3 psi vacuum inside the enclosure. Typical seals on a NEMA 4X enclosure begin drawing in air and moisture at 1.5 psi. Once inside a sealed box, liquid water is not able to escape and can begin to corrode sensitive electronics.
GORE™ Protective Vents allow an enclosure to equalize pressure, preventing the ingress of air and moisture around seals and preserving the seal's integrity. The vents enable easy passage of water vapor out of the box, reducing the amount of moisture and quickly clearing away condensation on surfaces such as displays.
