Venting

Vents for Sensors

Sensor Applications

The problem: Sensor enclosures exposed to temperature and pressure changes.

Changing temperatures, dust, dirt, and moisture considerably impact the electronics of sensors. Cleaning cycles, for example, can cause an electronic enclosure to cool down dramatically.

This sudden drop in temperature can cause a vacuum of 200 mbar (3 psi) or more inside the enclosure.

The solution: Equalize pressure by continuous venting.

GORE™ Protective Vents effectively protect against the negative effects of pressure differentials caused by temperature changes. With their integrated GORE™ Membrane, these vents allow enclosures to equalize pressure immediately when subjected to changes in temperature and pressure.

In Gas or Electrochemical sensors GORE™ Protective Vents protect the sensor head from dust, dirt, or liquid intrusion. At the same time the microporous ePTFE membrane ensures the constant response time of the sensor because gases can immediately pass through the membrane, preventing inaccuracy and delays in measurement results. The result - improved reliability, consistent performance and longer product life.

Features

  • Waterproof and dustproof to IP69k
  • Contains the microporous ePTFE GORE™ Membrane that is
    • water/oil repellent
    • moisture- and vapor-permeable
    • chemically inert
    • non-shedding
    • UV-resistant
    • temperature-resistant

Benefits

  • Accurate and consistent sensor measurements due to protection from contaminants, water, salts and other corrosive liquids
  • Reduced stress on sensor enclosure seals through rapid equalization of pressure
  • Quick airflow recovery after liquid exposure
  • Excellent gas-permeability due to microporous structure of the membrane
  • Easy integration for design and manufacturing
