Condensation creates adverse effects in automotive parts. Condensation, the process of water vapor turning into liquid water, can create major problems in vehicles:
Exterior lighting: Condensation can cause decreased light output resulting in safety issues and customer-perceived quality issues
Electronic enclosures: Condensation can corrode circuit boards and cause premature failure
Water and water vapor can enter enclosures from a variety of points including seals, cracks, breathers and even the plastic used in connectors and housings.
Proprietary membranes from Gore help to reduce condensation
Proprietary ePTFE membranes from Gore, used in GORE™ Automotive Vents are permeable to all gases including water vapor. These vents use the principle of diffusion, the migration of substances from regions where their concentration is high to regions where their concentration is low, to actively move water vapor out of enclosures. Airflow and pressure differentials are not required for diffusion to occur, ensuring that this process works when the car is parked and when it's driven.
Custom engineering for unique application criteria
Gore can tailor membrane properties and physical design to reduce the concentration of water vapor inside the housing, greatly reducing the chances of condensation forming. Contact us to learn more.
