Quality Control Tests: Bond Strength

The bond strength of GORE™ Laminates is measured by applying water pressure against the support layer with the membrane side unsupported. The water passes easily through the backing and is held by the hydrophobic membrane. The force needed to lift the membrane off the support layer is measured in psi. Typical test area is a one-inch diameter circle.

Standard test used to measure the force required to separate the layers of laminate.

POSSIBLE OUTCOMES WHEN WATER ENTRY PRESSURE HAS BEEN EXCEEDED

Four scenarios: 1- Membrane delaminates from sample, 2- Membrane ruptures without delaminating, 3- Membrane ruptures at the same time delamination occurs, 4-Water appears through the sample without delamination or rupture
