Thermal Decontamination Incinerator
Application
Thermal decontamination incinerator industrial clean air collector; 280 bags following an evaporative cooler; air-to-cloth ratio of 2.66/1 with online cleaning; gas flow of 9,920 acfm at 302oF.
Optimization Potential
Conventional singed Nomex® felt bags were failing every 3-4 months. The Nomex bags were thermally degrading due to an exothermic reaction of the particulate on the bag surface. High pressure drop also caused loss of airflow and emissions greatly exceeded state codes.
Solution
Installed a full set of GORE® membrane/acid resistant Nomex felt filter bags in September 1983. No other changes to the baghouse were made.
Results
The first set of GORE® membrane filter bags lasted two years, with an average pressure drop of four-five inches H2O. Full gas flow was maintained throughout the life of the bags. No thermal attack was reported. Strict emissions code of 0.0026 gr/acf was met for the life of the bags. A second set of GORE-TEX membrane filter bags was installed in September 1985. The bags are still in use.
