Application

Utility/power generation ventilation of mechanically conveyed/transferred RDF fines. Fourteen online pulse-jet dust collectors with air-to-cloth ratios ranging from 4.97/1 to 5.97/1.

Optimization Potential

Poor cake release resulted in blinding of the conventional polyester felt filter bags within a few weeks. Poor cake release became so severe that particulate bridging occurred between the bags. Inadequate ventilation resulted in dusty building conditions and required additional housekeeping.

Solution

Conventional polyester felt filter bags were replaced with GORE® membrane/ polyester felt filter bags. In addition, Gore engineers balanced the ventilation of each system.

Results

All 14 collectors operate at five inches w.g. or less for a minimum of 16 months. Fire hazards and housekeeping maintenance were reduced, and working conditions and consistent ventilation were improved.

Similar systems are being used in two other plants.
