Emission Control System – Industrial Paper-Fired Boiler
Application
Emission-control system industrial paper-fired boiler. Reverse-air baghouse designed for 1.77 cfm/ft2 (gross) air-to-cloth ratio (10,149 acfm at 365°F) as secondary filter behind primary multiclone.
Optimization Potential
Pressure loss and emissions. Because 100 percent of the ash entering the baghouse was less than five microns in size, the conventional (non-membrane) woven, acid-resistant coated fiberglass had to be cleaned continuously to maintain the DP across the bags to 11" w.g. The continuous cleaning caused ash bleed-through and a mass emission rate 6.8 times the allowable limit. The 11" DP limited steam production to 67 percent of boiler capacity.
Solution
Installed 100 percent GORE® membrane/heavy duty acid-resistant fiberglass fabric filter bags.
Results
Gas flow of 15,264 acfm at 420°F has been maintained with 4.5" DP across the bags. Mass emissions measured at only 22 percent of the allowable limit. Bags have not been retensioned because cake build-up on the bags has been eliminated.
