Filtration

Fly Ash – Industrial Coal-Fired Boilers (2)

Application

Fly ash – industrial coal-fired boilers (2). Griffin pulse jet collector (1,260 bags) – gas flow: 60,000 acfm at 350ºF; air-to-cloth ratio: 4.8 cfm/ft2; inlet load: 0.2-5.5 gr/dscf; particle size: 25% < = 3.0 µ.

Optimization Potential

Visible emission citation – existing multiclones could not reduce visible emissions to less than 40% opacity when boilers were on low load or during soot blowing and grate dumping. A mass emission rate of 0.6 lb/MMBtu was required.

Solution

Installed an on-line pulse jet collector (without venturi) with GORE® membrane/Teflon® B fiberglass fabric filter bags to cleanse 100% of the stack gas downstream of the multiclone.

Results

Visible emissions reduced to 0% regardless of boiler operating condition. DP of 2.2" w.g. on demand every 30 minutes with 50 psig pulse pressure. Measured mass emission rate was more than an order of magnitude below required emission rate. DP of 2.2" w.g. maintained after boiler tube rupture and pulse system failures which created DP of 10" w.g. as well as weekly shutdowns which result in serious acid dew point excursions. The second set of GORE® membrane filter bags has been installed.
