Titanium Sponge Vapor Recovery

Application

A titanium sponge vapor recovery unit producing magnesium and magnesium chloride.

Optimization Potential

The condensed metal and metal salts form large globules on the surface of the currently used felt filter bags. These globules restrict airflow, increasing the pressure differential, eventually blinding and degrading the bags. Bag life ranged from 6 - 18 months. TEFLON® felt media is required due to the temperature range 150-430ºF, and corrosive chemical environment.

Solution

Installed GORE® membrane/GORE® felt filter bags into the primary and secondary collectors.

Results

Bag life was increased to as much as five years. The non-stick characteristics of GORE® membrane prevented the development of globules on the surface of the bags. Airflow has been maintained at acceptable levels for needed production rates.
