Suction from Various Sources in Connection With the Manufacture of Cd-Ni Batteries
Application
Suction from various sources in connection with the manufacture of NiCd batteries. Pulse-cleaned filters from AAF, Flakt, and MikroPul (approximately 750 bags).
Optimization Potential
Excessive emissions of toxic heavy metals, cadmium, and nickel.
Solution
Installed GORE® membrane/heavy-duty, polyester felt filter bags (16 oz) and GORE-TEX membrane/woven polyester fabric (6 oz) filter bags in all filters to reduce heavy metals emissions to minimal levels.
Results
With GORE® membrane filter bags installed in the filters, emissions have been reduced to approximately 10 to 25 mg/nm. These results have been noticed by the government and cited as being an extremely ambitious environmental program.
Four old shaker cleaned filters are now equipped with conventional polyester bags. The filters will soon be replaced by a new pulse-cleaned filter, which will be equipped with GORE® membrane/polyester felt filter bags.
