Steel – 4th Hole Evacuation of Electric Arc Furnace (60T)
Application
Steel – 4th hole evacuation of Electric Arc Furnace (60T). Flakt reverse-air baghouse with 8 compartments holding 112 bags each. Design flow was 100,000 acfm (170 m³/h) at an air-to-cloth ratio of 1.09/1.
Optimization Potential
Customer needed additional airflow to help vent two smaller adjacent furnaces (40T, 45T).
Solution
Instead of a new baghouse, Gore proposed installation of 96 GORE® membrane/acid resistant fiberglass fabric filter bags in each compartment vs. the design 112 bags per compartment.
Results
Gore's proposal was accepted. Airflow was measured at 176,550 acfm (300,000 m³/h) at 480ºF (250ºC) with a gross air-to-cloth ratio of 2.2/1 and a net of 2.6/1 while maintaining a differential pressure of 4.7" w.g. (120 mm) and 5.5" w.g. (140 mm) respectively. The customer was satisfied with the airflow and saved the cost of a new baghouse and fans.
