Drying of Very Fine Oxidizing Agent

Application

Two large pulse-jet baghouses (total of 800 bags).

Optimization Potential

A filtration material was needed that would stand up to the harsh oxidizing atmosphere and be efficient enough to emit zero opacity on submicron, very reflective dust.

Solution

Installed 800 GORE® membrane/GORE® felt filter bags.

Results

Filter Life: The first set of filters was installed in October 1989 and changed out after 8.5 years of 24 hours/day, 7 days/week operation. The unit was shut down due to baghouse metal degradation. The filters were in excellent condition and had operated at less than 0.001 gr/dscf outlet emissions throughout the 8.5 year period. The filters ran at 4" pressure drop over the entire life, cleaning at 60 psi throughout. Design air-to-cloth is 4:1. The second set of filters, installed in March 1998, is operating continuously and performing as described above.
