Spray drying of precipitated silica.
A combination of high pulse pressure and a process that ran close to the dew point caused condensation of vapor near the top of the aramid filter bags. This significantly shortened the life of the filter bags. Additional damage to the bags was caused by temperature spikes in the spray dryer.
GORE™ Acrylic Bags were installed in order to provide low dust emissions and to handle the increased flow rates. The client‘s DCS system was optimized to control the temperature spikes of the bag house and safe guards were put in place to stay well within the maximum operation temperature of the bags.
With better hydrolysis resistance provided by the GORE™ Acrylic Filter Bags, and an optimized process, the bags lasted longer and lowered investment costs. Low emissions with acceptable pressure has been maintained with a bag life of over 3 years.
