How does the thread size of GORE™ TENARA® Sewing Thread TR STYLE compare to polyester threads?

GORE™ TENARA® Sewing Thread is made from expanded PTFE; therefore, size designations differ from those used on polyester threads. The following table lists a general comparison of thread size, break strengths, and applications:

Note: To order, substitute color code for (XX) in part number listed in the table. In stock and readily available colors: White (WH), Black (BK), Forest Green (FG), Chesapeake Blue (CB), Light Grey (GY) Extended lead times and minimum order quantity colors: Light Blue (LB), Yellow (YW), Orange (RG), Red (RD), Grey (GY) Chocolate Brown (CB). (Note: The fabricator is responsible for determining the correct thread size for the application.)

Seam strength is directly related to loop strength -the strength of two threads looped together as in a lockstitch. In laboratory testing, GORE™ TENARA® Sewing Thread retains a relative loop strength of more than 90% of its tensile strength giving greater seam strength. Conventional core-spun, spun, or continuous threads made of polyester or polyamide only retain a relative loop strength of 60-70 percent of their tensile strength. In some instances, GORE™ TENARA® Sewing Thread has a slightly lower initial breaking strength than conventional polyester or cotton/polyester threads. However, while polyester and cotton/polyester threads break down due to sunlight, weathering, and chemicals, GORE™ TENARA® Sewing Thread does not lose its strength. Combining superior loop strength and superior weather resistance makes GORE™ TENARA® Sewing Thread the choice for outdoor thread.
