Gore Brings More of the Outdoors into Your Home

New Transparent Window Screen from Gore Maximizes Light, Airflow and Clarity

New Technology Brings in 50% More Natural Light, Increases Airflow up to 300% and Offers More Clarity

Newark, DE (July 10, 2009)—W. L. Gore & Associates, the company best known for its waterproof and breathable outerwear, announced the national launch of a new line of transparent window screens called GORE™ inLighten® screens. Just as innovators in television techonology discovered a way to clear up viewers' picture with HDTV, Gore has invented a way to clear up homeowners' view from their windows with GORE inLighten screens. With the highest levels of light transmission and airflow of any available residential screen material, GORE inLighten screens bring 50 percent more natural light into the home, increase airflow up to 300 percent resulting in significant improvement in overall clarity compared to conventional window screens. Made of an ultra-fine fiber, the screens provide a clearer viewing experience for homes.

How It Works

GORE inLighten screens are made of patent pending ultra-fine material that makes the window screen virtually invisible. This elastic flouropolymer gives the screens 150 percent more elasticity and has a "memory" that prevents cracking, denting and sagging. GORE inLighten screens also withstand years of exposure to harsh elements in nature including extreme temperatures, UV rays, salt air and coastal conditions. In fact, lab tests indicate GORE inLighten screens will not flake, crack or break after testing conditions equivalent to 10 years of Florida UV exposure.

Most conventional screens are made with PVC coated fiberglass, which diminishes the view to the outdoors and the "curb appeal" of the home. Even though they are made of thinner material, GORE inLighten screens also protect the home from insects as well as conventional screens. "Until now, people didn't realize that you could have a screen that would help, not hinder, your view. Conventional screens appear black and dark on windows. Our screen provides more light and brightens up the whole room," said Maria Smith, Business leader, for GORE inLighten screens. "People tell us it's like looking through glass."

GORE inLighten screens are sold direct to homeowners and residential contractors from Gore online at inLightenScreens.com. They can be purchased as custom-built framed screens or in rolls of screen material that can fulfill a variety of needs. GORE inLighten screens are also available with new windows from several branded premium wood window manufacturers. Every GORE inLighten screen comes with a five-year warranty.

Notes: All window screen comparisons are made vs. fiberglass window screens, except for "best light transmission, best airflow" which is vs. all types of residential window screens. UV Exposure Study 2001: 6800 hours (equivalent to 10 years Florida UV exposure). Data on file at W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
