High-Temperature Cartridge Filter
Elkton, MD (January 26, 2010)–W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc, and Canadian manufacturer Sefar BDH, have teamed up to produce a high efficiency pleated cartridge filter for industrial air filtration baghouses. The new filters not only increase system throughput by up to 25%, but can also operate continuously at temperatures as high as 500°F (260°C). The new GORE® high temperature cartridge filters optimize baghouse capacity, efficiency, and durability by combining Gore’s proven membrane laminates with the durability of Sefar’s patented aluminum potting technology.
The new filters provide nearly three times the filtering surface of similar sized bag filters. They deliver an instant increase in airflow resulting in significant improvement in system productivity. In most cases air-to-cloth ratios are cut in half and differential pressures are greatly decreased. The new cartridge filters use high efficiency GORE™ laminates with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) membranes to increase filtration efficiency, provide better product capture, and lower emissions.
Innovative potting processes patented by Sefar BDH use highly durable molten aluminum to seal and secure the ends of the cartridge. These materials provide reliable protection against process upsets due to temperature fluctuations and eliminate potting degradation, the leading cause of failure in standard cartridges. Double stitched sealed seams and stainless steel support bands add further performance and durability. The new filters provide product recovery and emissions control unequalled by non-membrane filters and result in longer operating life and fewer bag change-outs over time.
In addition to improved air flows and productivity increases, GORE® high temperature cartridge filters easily replace existing bag filters without requiring hardware or system modifications. With up to 40% lower pressure drops they also significantly reduce fan and pulsing energy demands. Longer, more reliable performance also minimizes downtime required for change-outs.
GORE® high temperature cartridge filters use GORE™ high efficiency ePTFE membranes laminated to fiberglass backers in a needle felt construction. Laminate weight is 627 g/m2 (18.5 oz/yd2). Continuous operating temperature is 260°C (500°F) with a maximum surge temperature of 288°C (550°F).
