Gore Lab Receives ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and Department of Defense Accreditation

Elkton, MD (September 15, 2010) - W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (Gore) is pleased to announce that its Survey Products Group laboratory has received recognition as an accredited DoD ELAP Laboratory by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). The Gore laboratory has successfully completed the evaluation based on ISO/IEC 17025:2005, the 2003 NELAC Chapter 5 Standard, and the requirements of the Department of Defense Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DoD ELAP), version 4.1. The Gore lab is now accredited to perform its modified 8620 method for the analysis of the GORE® Module following the sampling of soil gas, sediment, water or air.

This accreditation by the A2LA, is defined on the associated A2LA Environmental Scope of Accreditation located at http://www.A2LA.org/scopepdf/3062-01.pdf.

Established in 1992, Gore’s Survey Products Group provides expert geochemical imaging services for petroleum exploration, minerals exploration and environmental investigations. GORE® Surveys have been used on thousands of sites and numerous sampling applications, in every US state and more than 60 countries worldwide.

GORE® Surveys use a patented, universal, passive sorbent-based sampler, the GORE® Module (previously known as the GORE-SORBER®), that comprises a GORE-TEX® membrane and hydrophobic adsorbents. The Module can be placed into almost any environment without modification to capture volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds present in soil (soil gas), groundwater, air and sediment.

Analysis of the captured compounds in Gore’s lab provides accurate, actionable results for use in site assessment, vapor intrusion investigations, remediation monitoring, groundwater and sediment sampling, and oil and natural gas exploration programs (both onshore and offshore).

In addition to the ISO accreditation, the performance claims of GORE® Surveys have been verified by the US EPA under their Environmental Technology Verification program (ETV), for both soil gas and ground water sampling. Visit the following pages on the  EPA website for more information:

Since its inception, the Gore’s Survey Products Group lab has delivered data of the highest quality, meeting or exceeding the data quality objectives required by consultants and regulators. Accreditation to the ISO standard affirms Gore’s commitment to continuously improve the processes that have led to their leadership in passive vapor sampling technologies.
