GORE™ PharmBIO Products Debuts Enhanced Product Line at INTERPHEX 2007
ELKTON, MD (April 24, 2007) - From the company that invented expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) and introduced it in the marketplace, GORE™ PharmBIO Products has developed and assembled a unique set of innovative products to meet the diverse and global needs of the pharmaceutical and bioprocess industries. Through its recent acquisition of Amesil, a leading supplier of non-reactive fluid transport, containment and sample solutions, Gore is continuing to enhance its product leadership position.
"GORE™ PharmBIO Products is aggressively pursuing ways to meet the evolving needs of our global customers," says Greg Tronto, Business Leader. "Our recent acquisition of Amesil puts us in a unique position to continue our track record of delivering innovative products to the pharmaceutical and bioprocess markets."
INTERPHEX 2007 marks the introduction of the combined Gore and Amesil product portfolio. Among those products are several delivering significant innovation to the market.
GORE™ LYOGUARD® Freeze-Drying Products have modernized the way in which the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries process heat sensitive products. LYOGUARD® products have allowed manufacturers to maximize operational efficiencies without increasing risk of product contamination or worker exposure during freeze-drying processes. Customers can experience improved sterility and drug containment when using GORE™ LYOGUARD® Freeze-Drying single use trays and containers.
By using a proprietary ePTFE membrane, GORE™ LYOGUARD® trays create a "closed" system while still providing a means for solvent sublimation. This reduces the chance for product "fly out" thereby increasing yields, reducing cleaning and cleaning validation costs, and protecting workers.
Because GORE™ LYOGUARD® Freeze-Drying Products are designed to easily integrate into existing industry standard equipment in a single use form, manufacturers can achieve all the benefits--increased processing efficiency, reduced operating costs, and decreased risk of worker exposure--without making costly investments in equipment and facility upgrades.
According to Gore's global Product Manager, Joe Brendle, one of the biggest benefits of using GORE™ LYOGUARD® Freeze-Drying Products is the increased safety in the research environment. "Many of today's pharmaceutical research programs are using more potent active ingredients, and these pose a challenge to manufacturers committed to worker safety," said Brendle. "GORE™ LYOGUARD® Freeze-Drying Products can be an integral part of programs that reduce workers' potential exposure to potent compounds without requiring major changes to manufacturing processes or large capital investments."
GORE® Filtration Products offer a wide range of high efficiency all ePTFE filtration solutions along with nearly 35 years of pharmaceutical applications expertise. Known for their exceptional reliability, GORE® Filtration Products optimize product collection by using totally inert FDA approved ePTFE collection surfaces. This ensures maximum powder capture in a contamination free environment. GORE® Filtration Products are available for a wide range of pharmaceutical processes including drying, size reduction, active product recovery and fines collection.
Key to the effectiveness of the filter is a collection surface made of 100-percent ePTFE, which is clean, non-shedding, non-particulating and chemically inert. The use of high performance GORE® RASTEX® ePTFE sewing threads and tightly sealed seams further eliminate any compatibility concerns.
"GORE® Filter Bags are superior to other solutions," says Chris Polizzi, Product Manager for GORE® Filtration Products. "In addition to having off the shelf and custom designs that we can specifically tailor to meet customer's needs, we also have seam sealing capabilities which helps to ensure that the backer doesn't shed. This coupled with our 100% ePTFE designs, help to ensure clean manufacturing."
GORE™ Amesil components include high purity tubing, hose, clamps, manifolds, connectors and assemblies offer custom solutions for fluid transport, containment and sampling. Material capabilities include platinum-cured silicone, PTFE, and thermoplastic elastomers in both reinforced and non-reinforced forms.
GORE™ STA-PURE® Tubing eliminates fluid stream contamination, offers unmatched life, and is the ideal choice for high purity or long running applications. Low particulation prevents fluid contamination and can extend filter life. Long-term pump testing proves that STA-PURE® Tubing lasts over 1000 hours at 600rpm or over 6000 hours at 100rpm. Its unmatched resilience also eliminates the need to rotate tubing through the pump head, saving time and reducing maintenance. The unique composition also provides unparalleled flow stability, with virtually no change in flow rate over the life of the tubing.
GORE™ CHEM-SURE® tubing offers the same benefits as STA-PURE® tubing; however, it offers an additional level of chemical resistance. CHEM-SURE® tubing can withstand very aggressive chemicals, including organic solvents such as xylene, MEK, and tolulene.
