Elkton, MD (January 27, 2008) - In its first year, the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run defined a new standard in North America epic running adventure. Competing as teams of two for a prize purse of $20,000, the inaugural group of competitors travelled for 5 days through the Colorado Rockies from the start at Beaver Creek Resort to the finish line in Aspen. In the process they overcame snow, high mountain passes, and 110 miles of epic running to reach the first ever TransRockies Run finish line.
After a great first year which received amazing feedback from competitors, media and host communities, the TransRockies organizational team set out to make the event even more epic in 2008. Starting on Monday, August 25 and finishing on August 30, the planned 2008 route includes six stages instead of five, more distance and elevation and will cover more rugged Rocky Mountain singletrack than before.
Registration for the 2008 GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run will open on Friday, February 1 and demand is expected to be very strong thanks to worldwide rave reviews and unique nature of the event. The field will be limited to 150 teams of two runners who will compete in five different categories: Open Men, Open Women, Open Mixed, Masters Men (80+ combined ages) and, new for 2008, Masters Women. In 2008, the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run will again include part of the Continental Divide Trail. This magnificent high-altitude route along the spine of North America will celebrate its 30th Anniversary this year with a series of events including the TransRockies Run, which has signed on as a sponsor of the Continental Divide Trail Association.
Offering teamwork, physical tests and camaraderie in stunning, epic surroundings, the 2008 GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run will offer 300 lucky runners the challenge of a lifetime.
