Gore Sponsors EVEResT Endovascular Research Simulation Symposium

Symposium Highlights Cutting Edge Simulation Technology in Endovascular Surgery

Flagstaff, AZ and New York, NY (November 17, 2010)—W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) is sponsoring the EVEResT (European Virtual Reality Endovascular Research Team) Lunch Symposium taking place on Friday, November 19 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the VEITHsymposium in the Gramercy A room, second floor. The symposium will detail the evidence for simulation in medical training and in other fields. Companies will demonstrate how new simulation technologies are designed to enhance performance in endovascular procedures.

Rapid advances in technology, combined with a demand for increased patient safety, have led to a growing interest in simulation as a training tool to prepare physicians for complex procedures without harming the patient. As a result, some of the world's leading vascular surgeons and radiologists are participating in the event. EVEResT is chaired by Professor Nicholas Cheshire, MD, Professor of Vascular Surgery, Head of Circulation Sciences and Renal Medicine, Imperial College Healthcare, Campus St. Mary's Hospital, London; Professor Mario Lachat, MD, Head of Cardiovascular Surgery, University Hospital, Zurich, Switzerland; and Dr. Isabelle van Herzeele, MD, PhD, consultant at the Department of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium and Honorary Fellow at the Department of Biosurgery and Surgical Technology NHS Trust, Campus St. Mary's Hospital, London.

"We are sponsoring this important event in order to help properly showcase the tremendous advances in simulation technology that are improving performance in endovascular procedures and patient outcomes," commented David Abeyta, Aortic Business Unit Leader at Gore. "Gore has a long and successful history of providing new technologies and tools to support vascular surgeons and radiologists."

About EVEResT

The EVEResT group (European Virtual Reality Endovascular Research Team) was founded involving three academic centers and the three specialties (cardiology, radiology, vascular surgery) involved in endovascular treatments of vascular diseases. This collaboration is intended to inspire other academic centers, different professional societies and medical device companies who already provide structured training programs, to work together and to develop a standardized approach for endovascular training and assessment including the simulator based technology to improve patient safety.
