Gore Shares Expanded PTFE Expertise in Leading Industry Reference Book
Elkton, MD (March 3, 2008) — As a leader in the development and technology of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), Gore was asked to share its expertise by writing a chapter for the second edition of Filtration and Purification in the Biopharmaceutical Industry. Like the previous edition, this book will be used by professionals around the world as a primary source for state-of-the-art information on the scientific and technological aspects of biopharmaceutical filtration.
A team of Gore employees, led by Michael J. Wikol, New Business Development Leader, Microfiltration Technologies, shared their knowledge of the benefits of using ePTFE in biopharmaceutical applications ranging from lyophilization to drug delivery and from air filtration to liquid filtration. Having worked with editor Theodore Meltzer on the first edition of this book, Wikol was pleased to assist with this new edition. Wikol says, “Meltzer is considered one of the leading experts in the area of biopharmaceutical filtration, so I consider it an honor to share my expertise in ePTFE along with the other authors of the book.”
Wikol describes the project as an example of Gore’s commitment to furthering the understanding of the science behind ePTFE, continuing, “Gore’s 50-year heritage of innovation includes a commitment to improving the quality of life. We translate this philosophy to explaining our scientific advances as a foundation for other products as well as applying the technology to develop safety and quality improvements in many industries.”
Gore continues to expand its services into the bioprocess market, as evidenced by its recent acquisition of Amesil in February 2007. According to Greg Tronto, Business Leader, Single Use Bioprocess Components, “Building on our strong understanding of ePTFE and our knowledge of material science, Gore can use the additional material sets from Amesil to further support the global bioprocess and pharmaceutical market. This background enables Gore to develop innovative products and create new technologies that better serve our customers.” Since the acquisition, Gore has expanded its research in areas such as non-reactive, fluid transport, containment, and sampling systems.
