W. L. Gore & Associates Names First Winners in 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in The Rough' Contest
Game Pieces Found in New York and California; Contest Continues in International Destinations
Elkton, MD (April 25, 2008) – W. L. Gore & Associates, a leading manufacturer of advanced technology products including the GORE-TEX® brand, today announced that two hidden GORE-TEX® brand game pieces have been found in Ithaca, New York and Ventura, California, within one week after the launch of the 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in the Rough' contest. The 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in the Rough' contest challenges U.S. travelers to uncover a hidden GORE-TEX® brand game piece in eight of the 10 destinations selected as Top 10 GORE-TEX® Footwear Summer Travel Destinations for 2008. Each winner will receive $500 in GORE-TEX® gear.
Ithaca, New York
On April 17, 2008, Ken Landis and his family planned their vacation and traveled from Croghan, NY to Ithaca, NY. They learned about the 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in the Rough' contest when searching online for information about the gorges and waterfalls in Ithaca. The Landis family found the game piece hidden in a Sycamore tree next to Ithaca Falls.
"We had a great trip to Ithaca and were delighted by the additional adventure the 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in the Rough' contest brought to our vacation. We look forward to wearing our new GORE-TEX® gear during our next trip," commented Ken Landis.
Ventura, California
On April 18, 2008, avid rock climber James Peters learned about the 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in the Rough' contest from his climbing organization, Access Fund. Peters traveled 30 miles from Thousand Oaks, CA to Ventura, CA to find the hidden game piece at Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau.
"I traveled to Ventura in search of the hidden GORE-TEX® brand game piece and to enjoy the local charm of this Southern California beach town. I am very excited to be the winner for California and am eager to get some new GORE-TEX® gear," commented James Peters.
The Contest Continues
The 'GORE-TEX® Footwear Diamond in the Rough' contest will continue through September 1, 2008. Travelers are encouraged to visit www.gore-textravelfootwear.com to gather clues of where the six remaining GORE-TEX® brand game pieces are hidden. Remaining destinations include Australia, Brazil, British Columbia, Madagascar, Norway and Switzerland. Travelers who find the hidden game pieces will win $500 in GORE-TEX® gear.
