W L Gore & Associates (UK) Ltd, manufacturer of the world famous GORE-TEX® fabric, has been named the best company to work for in Scotland for the seventh year in a row.

The company, which employs nearly 400 associates at sites in Livingston and Dundee, also ranked at number seven of the Top 100 in the UK on the list was published by The Sunday Times on March 7th, 2010.

The Sunday Times list is mainly based on the attitudes of almost 150,000 employees from more than 600 UK companies and assesses a wide range of factors from employee satisfaction and well being to company policy on a wide range of benefits.

The continued success of Gore is attributed to its associates and its unique company culture.

Gore UK associate Bob Doak said: “Gore is now very well known for the success of its unique management structure that has been delivering results and making Gore a great place to work for over 50 years.  There are no line managers, supervisors, or operatives at Gore – we are all associates, all part of strong teams and accountable to each other rather than answering to a traditional line manager. This allows the associate the freedom to understand his or her value within their team – empowering them to push the boundaries of achievement and maximise their contribution.

“The innovation that results in our world leading products comes from the great people in our company who work together as a team every day. Our corporate philosophy recognises that it is the associates that deliver successes for the company. Our associates play a very important role in developing products and systems that make a huge contribution to the company’s success globally.

“We are overjoyed to top The Sunday Times list for the seventh year running in Scotland. To top the poll once is an achievement but to top it seven years in succession is a testament to the associates in our business who operate in a unique culture.”

Rodger Pheely, an associate in Dundee, added: “Our unique culture attracts talented and skilled people and helps them develop further, nurturing them to achieve extraordinary things.”

Ann Gilles, an associate from the HR team, is delighted for everyone at Gore. She added: “To achieve this accolade for the seventh year running in such a competitive field is due to the strength of our corporate culture's fundamental beliefs, where trust in the individual engenders engagement and accountability.”

Commenting on what this unique culture means for a Gore associate from day-to-day, John Housego, a Livingston based associate, said: “You quickly learn what it means to be a genuine team player. Many companies claim to foster team spirit, but at Gore your contribution is rated not by an individual, but by your immediate team."
